About us

History and heritage

Tyréns was founded in 1942 by Sven Tyrén –  a visionary engineer who strived for development and innovation.

He successfully developed a structural engineering business in Sweden based on an inquisitive approach and a desire to have a positive impact on society.

Sven Tyrén

Leading the industry from the outset

Sven Tyrén’s ambition was for the company to remain at the forefront of technology, and he saw it as his mission to broaden and deepen the traditional role of the design engineer. He was a visionary and an entrepreneur who constantly strove for development and innovation.

By challenging established ways of working and driving new ideas forward, he initiated changes that made his own company technically leading within the industry, while also advancing the construction methods, building materials and reporting practices of the wider built environment sector. At the same time, this forward-thinking approach created lasting value for clients through smarter solutions, stronger collaboration and more efficient project delivery.

At the heart of it all was a strong commercial focus – combining technical excellence with innovation, customer value and sustainable growth.

The company grows and develops

The Sven Tyrén Foundation (Sven Tyréns Stiftelse, or STS) was established in 1976 as the sole owner of Tyréns.

The foundation documents state that: “ The purpose of the foundation is … to promote the development of building technology”.

In 2011, UK-based AKT II was acquired, followed by Hilson Moran in 2017.

In 2018, Lithuanian Kelprojektas was acquired, now Tyréns in Lithuania. The same year, the Tyréns Group was established, to enable growth in our international setting.

Purpose and culture

Tyréns is owned by a foundation with a single purpose: to promote the development of building technology. This makes a meaningful difference for our clients, as well as for all of us working at Tyréns.

While profitability is just as important for us as for any other company,  foundation ownership allows us to take the long view. Through our foundation, we are able to reinvest profits in innovation, research and capabilities, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of the industry. This provides stability for clients and employees alike. We are here to build lasting value. That balance of patience and progress is one of our quiet strengths.

Our ownership and heritage also mean that innovation, curiosity and a strong sense of purpose are embedded in our DNA – evident, not least, in the many digital solutions and ventures developed through our innovation programme, Next.

Finally, our Swedish roots shape how we work, fostering open, democratic dialogue, upholding ethical business practices, respecting the individual, and maintaining a healthy balance between work and life.
